Membership & the Society’s records

Membership Terms

The particulars of belonging. The wish for a few new friends is the uncomplicated part.

I. The Society

The Society of Undersocialized Parents is operated by The Society of Undersocialized Parents, LLC, a Vermont limited liability company (“the Society,” “we,” or “us”). These terms govern membership services provided by that company. This is not a support group and not a dating group. It is a club for parents who would like some friends.

Parents of grown children belong too. Marital status is neither collected nor relevant. Membership and billing are for adults; children attend eligible Expeditions with a responsible adult.

The membership page states whether paid enrollment is open. Publishing these terms does not open a chapter, launch a member portal, or start a subscription. An interest-register or Dispatch signup is free and is not a paid membership.

II. The household membership

$5 USD per household per month, including any tax we are required to collect. The offer covers up to two adult members in one household, with separate adult logins when the member portal is available, and one billing contact.

One paid household membership provides membership access across operating Society chapters nationwide. A second chapter subscription is not required.

Membership covers ordinary chapter gatherings and the membership information and notices described in the offer. It does not guarantee a particular gathering, attendance level, venue, or reserved place. Capacity limits and registration requirements apply where stated in a gathering notice.

Montpelier remains free for local participation, with optional contributions. A Montpelier household needs the standard paid membership for membership-only access at other paid chapters. Accompanying children do not need separate paid memberships.

Food, drinks, outside admission tickets, transportation, merchandise, and special activity or materials costs are separate unless a gathering notice expressly includes them. Check the confirmed chapter calendar and any additional costs before joining. Proposed chapters and features are not operating services.

III. Price & monthly renewal

A Stripe membership subscription costs $5 USD total per household each month, including any required tax, and renews automatically until canceled. It is a monthly subscription, with no twelve-month commitment. Cancel before the next renewal charge to stop the next month’s payment.

The checkout identifies the $5 total, currency, billing frequency, and any included tax before you authorize payment. Required tax is included in the $5 price, not added on top. The billing contact must be authorized to use the selected payment method. Stripe processes payment through its hosted checkout; do not send card information to the Society by email.

Billing starts with the successful initial subscription payment. Your payment confirmation and billing record identify the paid period and renewal date. Membership purchases are for an available offer, not a place on an expansion waiting list. A checkout return page alone is not proof that a payment succeeded.

If there is a failed, duplicate, or disputed charge, contact the Secretary so the payment and membership record can be checked. Do not create a second subscription to resolve a payment problem.

Any separately arranged manual payment must be confirmed by headquarters, including the period it covers. An optional Montpelier contribution does not buy membership or automatically count toward dues.

IV. Gatherings & participation

Assemblies are for adults. Expeditions welcome children when stated in the notice. The responsible adult remains responsible for the children in their care; Society gatherings do not provide childcare. Follow the venue’s rules and any age, ticketing, access, or activity requirements.

Come alone, arrive late, leave early, or miss a gathering without explanation where the notice permits. There are no forced introductions or participation exercises. Drinking alcohol is optional.

Treat other Fellows, hosts, venue staff, and children with consideration. Harassment, discrimination, threats, and unsafe conduct are not acceptable. Respect other people’s privacy and obtain permission before sharing identifiable photographs or personal information.

Hosts may ask someone to leave a gathering for unsafe or seriously disruptive conduct. Headquarters may review continued participation where necessary to protect attendees. Any related billing or refund question is reviewed under the Cancellation and Refund Policy, subject to applicable law.

Gatherings may change or be canceled. Check the current notice before travelling. When the Society attends an outside event, that event’s host controls admission and its own ticket terms.

V. Cancellation & refunds

You may cancel future renewal through the billing portal when available, or by emailing society@undersocializedparents.com. No telephone call or explanation is required. Ordinary cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.

Canceling future renewal and requesting a refund are separate actions. Headquarters reviews refund requests individually; there is no automatic refund promise. The full procedure, including billing errors and canceled gatherings, appears in the Cancellation and Refund Policy.

VI. Changes & questions

The Privacy Policy explains how the Society handles information. The membership help page provides contact and billing guidance without requiring sign-in.

We will post revised terms with an updated date and give affected paying households advance notice of material changes to price or recurring membership terms, with an opportunity to cancel before the change applies. Changes do not retroactively remove rights attached to an earlier payment. Where the law requires consent, we will obtain it.

Nothing in these terms or the refund policy limits a consumer right or remedy that cannot lawfully be limited. Contact the Secretary if the offer, checkout, or your receipt appears inconsistent.
